Earthly Loss, Heavenly Gain

We are obligated to lose loved ones, but it's never easy. Although we know that our life here on Earth is far from eternal, the pain of death stings like nothing else. While there is joy to be found in every situation, there must also be time for mourning.

Today I lost my Uncle Ruben. He was more than the creator of my nickname, "Shanni Pooh." He was the contagious carrier of happiness and love. I'm at a loss for words, while at the same time there are too many things whirling around in my mind.

I've been listening to this song to keep me calm. I will rejoice in the fact that we will meet again, "one sweet day."

I did not get to say goodbye in person, but I did get to spend the last few days in his home-state of California. I look forward to spending time with my family and celebrating his life. I've had an Earthly loss, but a heavenly gain.

Te quiero, Tío Ruben.
